As my boys reluctantly headed back to school this past month, I realized fall is upon us! It’s been a long, hot summer, and I am now ready to enjoy the cool, crisp air of fall.
With fall approaching, many of our readers are planning their weekend camping and hiking trips. Emily Hill, our summer intern, did a great deal of research on this favorite pastime and shares tips for making the most of your trip, including getting kids involved in camping as well as some great locations for hiking.
The cooler weather also invariably brings the cold and flu season. With such a large selection of physicians in Gwinnett County, how do you choose the right doctor for you and your loved ones? We asked more than 1,500 physicians to vote for their favorite doctor in various fields of medicine and the votes are in! We hope you will keep this as a reference guide when you are in need of a physician.
October is also time for the annual Gwinnett Great Days of Service where volunteers with valuable skills help local nonprofit agencies with landscaping, painting, food drives and other renovations. This is a great way to do something special for these agencies as well as know you are giving something back to the community.
As you’ll notice, we’re continuing our focus on active adults. We all know your brain is a muscle, and in order to keep it strong, you must keep learning. Active adults in Gwinnett County have plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and take advantage of various courses offered to active seniors.
Speaking of taking advantage of local resources, rediscover theatre this fall. Check out our Love of the Arts section. There are many local theatres that offer a large variety of entertainment sure to please everyone.
I also want to take a minute to introduce our new Managing Editor, Heather Loveridge. She’s on the lookout for great stories, so send any interesting tidbits, press releases, article ideas or any editorial feedback to heather@accentgwinnett.com
As we all get back into the routine that fall brings I hope you take a minute, or a weekend, to enjoy this season. Happy autumn!
